Championship Battle

Peter Whittingham believes Cardiff’s defeat at Middlesbrough on Saturday was only “a minor setback” and the Bluebirds are 7/10 to beat Derby tonight.

Boro beat the npower Championship leaders 2-1 at the weekend, so the Welsh side have now lost two of their last three games and their lead over Hull has been cut to five points.

But Derby are without a win in six games and have won just three matches on their travels this season, so Whittingham insists only a win victory do against his former club.

He told walesonline.co.uk: “This is our first away defeat since November and it’s about bouncing back.

“We have done that before and need to do it again against Derby. That’s the time to put a few wrongs right.

“There’s 12 games to go and we are confident (about winning promotion). We are a good team and we believe this will be a minor setback. But wins are essential now. That can open gaps, but we have to win (against Derby).”

Second-placed Hull face a difficult trip to Crystal Palace and the Tigers are 2/1 to win at Selhurst Park, with the Eagles 6/4 for the home win.

Third-placed Watford are 8/11 to record another home win against Sheffield Wednesday, while Leicester are 4/6 to beat Leeds at the King Power Stadium.

Bottom-of-the-table Bristol City have won their last four home games, but they face a difficult clash with in-form Brighton at Ashton Gate tonight.

The Robins are 9/4 to beat Gus Poyet’s promotion-hopefuls, with the Seagulls priced at 13/10 for the away win.
