Euro 2012

Poland and Ukraine are busy preparing to welcome Europe’s finest for the Euro 2012 finals. Having gone through all of the qualifying rounds the starting 51 teams have now been whittled down to the best 16.

On the 8 June 2012 Poland will open proceedings at the National Stadium Warsaw against Greece.

The actual Euro tournament (the lead up to 2012) started back in 2010 when the first qualifying stage commenced. All 51 teams were placed into nine individual groups by way of a draw. The teams then played home and away matches against each other to try and book their place in June’s finals. The nine winners of each group went through along with the runner-up with the best record against the top five sides in their pool.

The 4 remaining places were to be decided by an additional set of play-off matches which were to determine who would join the automatic qualifiers. The last 8 teams were again pitched against each other in a home and away ties with the 4 winners joining the others in Poland and the Ukraine.
