Liverpool Beat Everton
What was the score in the Merseyside derby 2012?
Liverpool kept their slim hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League alive thanks to a 3-0 win over Everton and they are 10/1 with BetVictor for a top-four finish.
Much was made before the game of the fact that David Moyes was closing in on his 10th anniversary as Everton manager.
However, in the end it was Reds skipper Steven Gerrard who celebrated his own landmark occasion by hitting home a hat-trick on his 400th Premier League appearance for the hosts.
In doing so, Gerrard became the first Liverpool player to bag a Merseyside derby treble since Ian Rush struck four times against the Toffees at Goodison Park in 1982.
Gerrard told Sky Sports: “I suppose it is special – Ian Rush is a hero of mine, I looked up to him for a long time and watched many, many videos of him.”
Anfield manager Kenny Dalglish has run out of superlatives for the club’s talismanic leader after he helped push them to within 10 points of fourth-placed Arsenal.
Dalglish said: “For a guy who left school at 15, my vocabulary is not that great. There is no way I could extol the virtues of Steven Gerrard and do him justice.”
After bouncing back from three straight league defeats, the Scot added: “It is a good reward for the players. It is great that they maintained the belief in themselves, the philosophies we have got and the way they have been playing.”
