Marko Marin

Chelsea will have a German spy in their ranks when taking on Bayern Munich in the Champions League final and new recruit Marko Marin is backing the Blues to prevail at the Allianz Arena.

Marin will move to Stamford Bridge from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen this summer and has been far from impressed with Bayern’s domestic form ahead of this weekend’s European Cup decider.

While Chelsea secured some silverware when beating Liverpool in the FA Cup final, Bayern were crushed 5-2 by Borussia Dortmund in the German equivalent.

Asked if Bayern’s defence was weak, 23-year-old playmaker Marin told BBC Sport: “Yes. I watched the German cup final. They made big errors. Chelsea have better players and will do well if they play offensively.

“Bayern did a very good job against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, but they did not do well in the cup final. I think Chelsea will win at the weekend.”

Marin’s own side Wereder Bremen were beaten 2-1 by Bayern in the Bundesliga last month, with Franck Ribery bagging a last-minute winner at the Weserstadion.

“I think the strongest Bayern player is Franck Ribery because of his dribbling and because he’s a goal threat,” Marin warned. “There’s also Mario Gomez. He’s scored a lot of goals in the Champions League and is a constant danger. If Chelsea can stop them then they will do well.”

Chelsea are 7/4 with BetVictor to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time on Saturday night and 7/2 to beat Bayern in normal time, while Munich fans can get 12/5 for Ribery to net at any time and 5/4 for Gomez to get on the scoresheet.
